When you see a pumpkin — whether it’s on display at a supermarket, ready for carving at a festival, or sitting in the field waiting to be picked — it’s easy to imagine it’s always been there, perfectly orange and ready for autumn. The truth is, every pumpkin you see has been months in the making.

At our pumpkin farm in Essex, we grow for two very different customers:

And behind the scenes, there’s a lot of work to make sure every pumpkin — whether it’s in a giant bin heading to a shop or in a field ready for a family photo is in perfect condition.

The Wholesale Journey – From Field to Lorry

Right now, harvest is in full swing for our wholesale pumpkins. Each morning, our picking teams walk the rows, checking for the perfect colour, size, and quality. Pumpkins that are ready are cut from the vine and placed carefully into large bins to avoid bruising.

Once full, these bins are loaded onto tractors and taken to the yard. Here, they’re packed into sturdy cardboard octabins; each one holding hundreds of pumpkins. These are then lifted onto lorries and sent to markets, farm shops, garden centres, and event organisers across the country.

The Pick Your Own Experience – Ready for October

While wholesale orders head out across the UK, another part of the farm is getting ready for our pick your own pumpkin patches in Essex. Some pumpkins are left right where they’ve grown, others are moved into our PYO fields so visitors can enjoy the full experience of searching for their perfect one.

When you arrive in October, you’ll find rows of pumpkins in every shape and size, waiting for you to choose. The fields are prepared weeks in advance so they’re ready for families to explore, take photos, and enjoy the seasonal atmosphere.

Every pumpkin in the PYO field has been handled with care so it’s fresh, firm, and perfect for carving, decorating, or cooking.
