The Pumpkin Patch- FAQ's

What is your Pumpkin Patch?

We offer you the chance to visit our pumpkin patches and pick your own pumpkin direct from the field.

To keep up with demand for all you wonderful pumpkin pickers, we sometimes have to replace the field with ready picked pumpkins from our other fields.

You simply turn up, pick your pumpkin from the field and then pay our helpful staff once you have chosen. Simple!

Our pumpkin patches offer a great family day out! Feel free to bring your picnics and eat them in the fields.....

Where are you?

We have two pick your own pumpkin patches- one in North Essex and one in South Essex. Postcodes for the Patches are- SS15 4BP for Basildon Pumpkin Patch and CO6 3PR for Colchester.

We will have plenty of pumpkin patch signs around Essex so look out for the signs and you will be sure to see us! Any questions on location just give us a call on the pumpkin phone!

Also see our Pumpkin Trailer and Pumpkin Shed pages, just in case you cannot make the patch but still need a pumpkin.

Is it muddy?

Yes- you will be coming onto our fields to pick your pumpkins so it can be very muddy so wellies (or at least old shoes!) will need to be worn; but then mud is fun isn’t it?! Please do take care when walking through the field as it is muddy and uneven as you would expect on a farm.

If it is too muddy and wet and we have to shut the patch we will update our website and social media to keep you informed.

Who can I bring?

We welcome all of the family- babies, children, grandparents, cousins, neighbours, everyone- but unfortunately we do not allow dogs (even our little miniature daschund Fudgie has to miss out on the fun!)

Do I need to book?

The beauty with the pumpkin patch is that there is no need to book and NO entrance fee! You just need to check our website or social media to check that we are open (as we may need to close if it is too rainy!) and come and see us for a fun morning/ afternoon!

How much does it cost?

Entry into the pumpkin patch is free so a great family fun filled activity - all you have to pay for is the pumpkins you pick and they range from as little as £1!

When are you open? - Pumpkin Picking Dates 2017

The pumpkin patches will be open in 2017, further details to follow.

To be released in summer 2017!

Please check our social media and website for weather updates to make sure that we are open! (just incase of the weather!!)

If it is rainy and we have to close our patches, you can still visit our Pumpkin Trailer or Pumpkin Shed in wet weather.

So there are plenty of places to come and see us to pick your perfect pumpkin!

Can I bring a large group i.e. school visit/ group coach trip?

Absolutely, we love seeing big groups on our patches but we do recommend that large groups book in advance to avoid disappointment and there will be allocated parking for coaches etc.

Do you make any charity donations?

We love to be able to support local charities and every year like to support different charities each year.

This year our chosen charities are The Tom Bowdidge Foundation and Kids Inspire.

Is there Car Parking?

We do have car parking at both of our patches but they are fields so it will be muddy and car parking can be limited if it is very wet. Please ensure that you stick to all hard standing areas and adhere to the 5 miles per hour speed limit on site. Cars are parked at the owners' risk.

What about the Weather?

We all know us British love talking about weather so we will regularly be updating facebook and twitter with weather updates and conditions in the patch so please check these or our home page for an update on conditions here at the pumpkin patches! Now let’s all keep all those fingers and toes crossed for a dry October!

What do I need to bring with me?!

The WHOLE family, wellies for all, some gloves as the stalks can be prickly- especially for children; a bag/ cloths as the pumpkins will be muddy and a camera to take lots of snaps and selfies of course! All of the pumpkins are cut in the field so there is no need to bring any knives or cutters and these will not be permitted on site!

Are there any facilities?

At our Basildon pumpkin patch, we have some yummy spooky food stalls offering eerie bacon rolls, spooky sausages and wizard burgers as well as tea, coffee and cold drinks! We also know that half the fun is eating outside so we have plenty of spooky straw bales for you to sit on to enjoy your lunch! There will be toilets available.

Do you take card Payments?

Unfortunately we are unable to accept card payments as we are in the middle of the patch so please remember to bring cash with you!

Can we bring Wheelchairs?

We are a working farm and our patches are in a field. We do have limited disabled parking and can accommodate wheelchairs although the pumpkin fields will be muddy and uneven, and we don’t want the wheelchairs getting stuck so come prepared!

I have picked too many pumpkins what can I do with them?

Pumpkins are delicious believe it or not and there are several different ways to cook with them! You can make soups, pasta dishes, pies even cakes! Check out http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/collection/pumpkin
